Greek National Leadership Programme Training

ENPOWER co-organised with HAEE the ENPOWER Workshop and National Training for energy communities in Greece as part of the  11th HAEE Energy Transition Symposium on the 25th of May.

Some key highlights & messages from the discussions:

The Greek ENPOWER pilot in Chalki demonstrated how real-time energy data, smart meters, EV charging infrastructure, and a 1 MWp PV park can support smarter and more participatory energy communities.

• Participants were introduced to a suite of innovative digital tools developed within ENPOWER:
  FLEXCOMM showcased how flexibility services and smart energy management can maximize self-consumption and optimize energy use at both building and community level. 
• EV Loader demonstrated the role of smart EV charging in supporting flexibility and improving the integration of renewable energy within local communities. 
• CARTIF’s Energy Community Planning Tool highlighted how data-driven planning can help communities design and manage more efficient, resilient, and citizen-centric energy systems.

A central takeaway from the National Training session was that energy communities are not only about technology, but they are also about governance, trust, participation, and social inclusion. Citizens increasingly want to actively participate in the energy system, but simplicity, transparency, and accessible digital tools remain critical.

Discussions also highlighted the evolving European framework for energy sharing, citizen participation, and demand-side flexibility, emphasizing the growing role of prosumers and local energy cooperation in achieving Europe’s climate goals.

Research findings presented during the workshop showed strong public openness toward participation in energy communities, particularly when linked to:

• lower energy costs
• energy autonomy
• local economic development
• environmental benefits
• community cohesion.
